Recruitment
The Arrochar Mountain Rescue Team is always keen to recruit new members. There is a progressive system towards full membership through introduction, development, and demonstrated experience.
Trainee member
- Have 2 years + of hill experience
- Have an interest in developing first aid skills
- Have a reasonable level of fitness
- Have suitable personal clothing and footwear for adverse weather conditions
- Have elementary navigation skills
- Live within a reasonable traveling distance
When the trainee member has demonstrated sufficient experience he/she can then become a "Probationary Member" after a committee vote.
Probationary Member
A probationary member is on the callout list although they may not be deployed on all incidents depending on the conditions.
In order to progress to this level they must be able to show the following skills
- An ability to navigate to a specific point in adverse weather conditions day or night
- Hold a current recognised first aid certificate
- Movement on broken ground in summer conditions
- Knowledge of Team equipment and its deployment
- Rigging of simple belays and setting up back roping systems
- Familiarity in use of radios and radio procedures
- Search procedures as a team member
- Land Rover driving on road without 'blues and twos'
- Sufficient personal equipment to survive a night out in poor "summer" conditions
- Familiarity in Working with helicopters
- Use of flares and other signaling equipment
- Ability to work within the Team
Once the member has demonstrated experience in the above area he/she can then become a full member after discussions and vote by committee members.
You will also be expected to attend the majority of training days as well as being available for Fundraising activities and "Call Outs"
