Funding Overview
Until recently Civilian Mountain rescue teams in Scotland relied entirely on donations to fund their costs. While basic medical equipment has been supplied by the Mountain Rescue Committee of Scotland, running costs had to be met by the teams themselves.
2005 saw a major change in the way the team was funded. The Scottish Executive agreed to increase the funding to Scottish Mountain Rescue. This funding is allocated to the civilian teams through the Mountain Rescue Committee of Scotland for allocation to MR teams.
While this funding is greatly received it does not cover all of the teams running costs and as such we still rely on public donations and fundraising activities to enable the team to operate to the high standards expected.
Running costs include insurance and maintenance for our vehicles and MR post and the replacement of essential equipment. This amounts to a considerable yearly cost. For example the insurance for our two Land Rovers amount to £3000 per year.
As well as public donations AMRT helped raise funds through a variety of different events. Annual public winter skills and navigation days, while raising the awareness of the associated hazards and hopefully reducing accidents, have proved to be popular fundraising activities.
Please help AMRT by making a donation. Your help greatly assists in the smooth running of the team.
